Common Oral Ulcers: Apthous Ulcers
Apthous ulcers are one of the most common mouth ulcers. Scientifically, they are known as Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS).
In appearance, Apthous ulcers are
- Small (0.5 cm to 1 cm diameter) in size
- Round to ovoid in shape
- Yellowish in colour with surrounding reddishness
They are painful, occur again and again and cause difficulty in eating
Most common causes are Stress and nutritional deficiencies.
Mostly oral ulcers heal spontaneously in 7 to 10 days. We can take vitamin supplements for an early recovery. But if they persist even after 1-2 weeks you should consult your doctor.
