Why does decay in milk teeth progress faster?
Milk teeth are different from permanent teeth. A few reasons of faster progress of dental decay to the pulp are
- Milk teeth have lesser thickness of enamel and dentin than permanent teeth
- The pulps of milk teeth are larger in relation to crown size
- The pulp horns in milk teeth are closer to outer surface
- One of the pulp horns in 2nd molar is very close to the outer surface
So, milk teeth need extra care just like your child. Good news is that decay can be identified and taken care of in early stages.
