What is OPG?
Full form of OPG is Orthopantomogram. An OPG is a common radiograph used to identify the hard tissues of the oral cavity and surrounding skeletal structures. Some structures easily seen on OPG are
- Teeth
- Form and shape of lower jaw (mandible) & upper jaw (maxilla)
- Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)
- Sinuses and nasal septum
- Nerve canal in lower jaw
It helps in identification and planning treatment for dental decay, bone loss, jaw fractures, tumours, dental implants, orthodontic treatment etc.
