Milk teeth are supposed to remain in a child’s mouth till a certain age. Each milk tooth is replaced by a permanent tooth usually when the root is formed two-thirds of its final length. 

When a milk tooth remains in the mouth beyond its natural time, it is called an over-retained milk tooth. An over-retained milk tooth may have side effects or it may be beneficial.
