Structure of tooth
Tooth has two parts:
- Crown: Visible in mouth. It is covered by protective outer covering called enamel which is the hardest tissue of the body. Enamel is insensitive to outside stimulus.
- Root: Embedded into jaw bone with gums on outside. It is covered by cementum. Root is attached to the bone with periodontal ligaments.
Dentin lies at the core of the tooth that surrounds the pulp.
Pulp contains the nerves and vessels.
Nerves from pulp also extend into dentin making it sensitive to outside stimuli.
