Root Canal Treatment (RCT)
Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is generally considered to be the most effective way to remove inflammation and infection in the root canals (Stages 4 & 5).
There are essentially 2 steps in RCT
- Cleaning & Shaping of root canals: This helps to clear up the infection inside the roots of the tooth and thoroughly sterilize the root canals
- Filling of root canals: To prevent reinfection
Research suggests that long term survival of teeth with indirect full cusp coverage restorations (crowns, onlays etc.) is better than direct restorations. When standard procedures of RCT are strictly followed, the success rate of RCT may exceed 90%.
