Dental Plaque - A Biofilm
Biofilms are formed on the surfaces in the mouth as dental plaque. Surfaces can be teeth, dentures, braces, aligners etc.
Dental Plaque matures overtime and there is a shift from microorganisms found in healthy states to disease causing microorganisms. Dental plaque is responsible for the two most common human diseases caused by microorganisms i .e. Dental Caries and Periodontal disease.
Both diseases are further driven by specific host inputs: diet and behavior in the case of dental caries and immune system interactions in the case of periodontal disease.
Easiest way to remove dental plaque is to brush your teeth daily.
